Y1 - 2 19 Ford Model 'T'
Issued 1964
| First issued in 1964, the
model sported a twin brake lever for a very short run (pic.1) This soon
reverted to the single version in pic.2. For some reason a few were issued
with wheels of 11.5 mm diameter instead of the normal 13mm - probably a
factory mix up (pic.3 and compare in pic.10 together). The front grille can
have one or two bars across it and the word 'Ford' on the grille appears
in two distinct types of script. The rear spring gap either side was
gradually filled in over time and the letters on the number plate were
altered so that the '0' and the '8' were larger on later issues. First
bases had 2 holes in but these were blanked off eventually and there are 2
measurements to the gap between these holes.
The next main variant was that the roof was changed from smooth black to a textured dark red and this gave rise to a rare interim version with black textured roof which can appear on both the red and the cream/red versions (4 & 5). The body colours changed to a red and cream (pic. 6) followed by white and cream (pic.7). In pic.9 is a version with trial orange roof and grilles have been seen in this colour as well. The next main issue was the all black one in the Connoisseur set. There is a very rare version, a model issued by a US club in all over black (11)which has chrome 12 spokes on. It was originally a code 1 issue as made by Lesney but has since been recoded as a Code 2 version. So as not to confuse the two, the underneath of the roof was embossed on this new issue with 'Limited Edition' on the Connoisseur model (12) This was finally followed by the enhanced model in the Founder's Set (13) with the same roof modification on. |
